Before the fence was erected around the adjacent park there were more of these fibreglass figures. The Never Never is a term coined from Barcroft Boakes poem "Where the Dead Men lie" and is used to describe the endless remote areas of the Australian Outback

Out on the wastes of the Never Never -
That's where the dead men lie!
There where the heat-waves dance forever -
That's where the dead men lie!
