Belconnen's favorite penis shaped owl!

Look closely! Do you see it? It's probably not what Bruce Armstrong intended when designing his owl tribute for Belconnen but this sculpture, one of Canberra's most prominent BIG Things, has been nicknamed 'The Penis Owl' It's simply titled 'Owl' though and it was created in 2011 based off the Australian Powerful Owl Ninox Strenua. The BIG owl is positioned in the middle of a median strip on the Corner of Belconnen Way & Benjamin Way. Parking's a bit rough for this area so I'd strongly suggest parking at 6 Ware Pl, Belconnen. It's a 30 second walk to the sculpture and a safe place to park.

Deakin - BIG Cups

Across the road from the RMIT's BIG Coins are these BIG Red Cups. At first I believed they were disposable drinking cups. The kind you frequently see in American movies but upon closer inspection they more resembled ziffy cups with sprouting plants. There was no plaque but my Instagram caught the attention of Beaver galleries and I was fortunate enough to receive a message from them. The sculpture is called 'Tripla Forza' by Denese Oates and is found on the front lawn of the Gallery. 📍 Beaver Galleries

Caroline Springs | The BIG Tap

This one is extra special as it’s made by Simon Perry! You may be asking yourself 'Who on Earth is Simon Perry?' Props if you recognized the name! If you didn’t, there's a really good chance if you've been exploring the world of Australian BIG Things you may have seen work from him and simply don't know it. The BIG Public Purse in Melbournes CBD is another Simon Perry Sculpture along with the BIG Knots in Brisbane! The BIG tap was commissioned by Delfin Land Lease for their Caroline Springs Estate and was brought to life in 2007. Looking for art near you or content for your next road trip?
