Originally the BIG Gold Panner was created for the Gold Panner Motor Inn in Kelso, NSW.
The hotel owner commissioned Hugh Anderson in 1979 to create the company mascot which was also a tribute to the towns history.
It's a little hard to tell but the Inn is still there today and the Panner seems more of a local attraction than a facilities mascot these days.
We don't mind though! Whether you visit during the day or are really pressed for time the BIG Gold Panner is surrounded by lights ensuring that no matter when you arrive to visit this amazing sculpture you'll be able to snap a photo.
Hugh Anderson is also the creator of the Kulangoor BIG Cow that relocated to Highfields and was restored in 2020. He also created 5 of the 7 Bulls in Rockhampton,QLD
