Lewis Batros
I added this to my BIG Thing list as 'The BIG Arm' and upon visiting found the label really inappropriate. I didn't realize prior to my visit that this sculpture wasn't only a monument but a war memorial. I've since listed it as Public Art.
The sculpture is called the Assyrian Genocide Memorial Statue and seeks to honor the Assyrian lives lost from 1914 to present day. Mr Batros designed the monument fill of symbolism and passion with the base of the sculpture embellished with young children symbolic of the faith Assyrian children hold for their nation. The 4.5m arm is representative of the Assyrian individuals who strived to create a safer and more prosperous environment, Those individuals (the hand) is swaddled in the Assyrian flag and tells of those who survived and the unity created thereafter.
The hand holds up the world glove for all to see and witness and for the world to stand united against genocides and tyranny.

The memorial is constructed with concrete and steel and was completed in 2010.
