Darling Harbor - Terrance Plowright

Terrance Plowright

A rather unusual sculpture by Plowright is found at the top of some escalators leading down to Cockle Bay in Darling Harbor near the large footbridge.

Encased in polycarbonate plastic are the hand carved bones of a mother and calf humpback whale. The soft blue lights give an ocean vibe. Riding the escalators provides a moving visual as you travel underneath these suspended mammals.

I'm still not sure when this sculpture was installed but it's 8m in length and quite something to look at. It's not the first time I've seen the pair. I'd taken photos of them before during the day time and will upload them when I find them on my mess of a laptop.
