For the longest time I referred to this sculpture as the BIG Superhero but have just discovered he’s in fact called the Millennium Man.
The Sunshine Village cinema commissioned BIGFish in footscray to create the sculpture with the belief Millennium Man wouldn't last more than 5 years. He was created sometime in the 90's and is depicted holding a world globe with a strip of film wrapped around it to symbolize movies around the world.
The plaza had a makeover in 2016 which saw the millennium man significantly refurbished. Officials have promised Millennium Man will be around for decades to come but unfortunely on our visit to Sunshine Dec 2020 he was gone. I gave the sculpture a google and found he'd been taken away as he was riddled with rust and became too much of a public liability as people liked to climb all over him
