Sydney CBD - Chris Fox

I love this sculpture. It's as grand as it is unusual. The artwork pays homage to Sydney's past as the old wooden escalator stairs were gutted in a revamp and recycled instead of being thrown out discarded.
The artist went to great lengths to have the stairs suspended from the ceiling and what a spectacle it makes.

Originally the stairs were installed back in 1932 and yes, were made of wood. Over time they were deemed a hazard and as the world began to replace wood with metal these old stairs were added to the list of things needing to be upgraded by city council.

As far as public art goes this is one of the most intriguing I've have the pleasure of visiting and continues to be a favorite.
