Townsville Public Art by TTC

TCC

TCC, I assume stands for Townsville City Council. I don't see real life objects being placed in strange places as public art but if council wished to throw a red nose from Red Nose Day on an old Wig Wag and title the ''Art'' 'WigWag' who am I to complain.

Wig Wag is an old term used to describe a type of railroad crossing signal. Before our modern signals the WigWag comprised of a standard typical X display on a pole but instead of alternate flashing lights the pole was accompanied by a singular pendulum light that flashed and made a lot of noise.

Here's a video

Interestingly the term is also used in Britain to describe alternate flashing lights which are generally what we see on modern crossings today.

At the time I showed up to this location and was confused by what I was suppose to be looking for. When I loaded my map for a reference photo I felt a little cheated. The council doesn't provide much information for it's public art so the historical aspect and its connection to Townsville was, and is, somewhat lost on me.
