Melbourne CBD - Petrus Spronk

Architectural Fragment by Petrus Spronk in Melbourne's CBD | Melbourne Public Art

Happy 250th Post!
I want to share the last photo I took in Melbourne before we left for Albury on Boxing Day.

This sculpture had been on my list for a fair few years. I never added it to my map because I always assumed I knew where it was. Needless to say I googled the location this trip and found it wasn't where I thought it was but super stoked I was able to grab it this visit. It's an amazing sculpture.

Its called ''Architectural Fragment'' and was brought to life in 1992 by Petrus Spronk. The name isn't familiar to me so I can't recommend any other of his works.

This beauty however is exactly what it looks like. It's a corner of a building (A library) sinking into the pavement. Many people have mistitled this sculpture as 'Sunken Temple' and I wonder if it's a metaphor for the decaying and dying information centers as everything is so readily online and a few clicks or phrases away
