The sculpture depicts James Martin and was created in 2017. It was placed in Parramatta where Mr Martin grew up but was recently installed in Martin Place in which it was named.
James Martin was a poor child and came from an impoverished home. He did however strive to challenge his upbringing by doing everything he could to seek education and reinvent his fate.
James Martin determination and drive resulted in him growing up to become the Attorney-General, 3 times Premier and Chief Justice of NSW.
With notable works in Manly, Anzac Bridge and World Square Alan Somerville has surprised me as I've now seen two public artworks from the artist without realization and a third that's been on my bucket list since a late night google search in 2019.
