Rob Bast
I'm struggling to find a similar picture I took during my last few days pre Melbourne where I stopped at a similar sculpture to this. It was a rosella I believe and it was carved by Rob Bast. I assume this magpie was also carved by Rob as he has another artwork in town and is one of few wood artists in the area.
Chainsaw art has become increasingly popular the last 5 years and while these wooden birds aren't new or special I do enjoy seeing them. This sculpture unfortunately isn't permanent and could easily be moved by town or vandal but when photographed Robs magpie was next to the Arc and across from the Hotel.
