Cloncurry Painted Water Tank by The Zookeeper

The Zookeeper

I had a difficult time photographing this tank. The ridge to walk around the tank was too narrow to capture a tank of this size without my photo producing a bit of fish eye. Standing further back wasn't much of an option as the ground was far from level and being well below ground level really affected the angle.

While I'll likely never go back to Cloncurry I am disappointed with the photos I took and really wish I had my DSLR. It's inspired me to order a new camera so with a bit of luck the camera is sound and mid 2025 I can begin taking better quality photos again.

The tank was completed in late 2018 and is a little less vibrant these days after years of sitting in full sun. The tank features two small children. Barrack and Brianne, both are members of the 'Deadly Dancers' who performed during NADIOC week and inspired the artist. Barrack is captured in full traditional ceremony and Brianna is depicted throwing a paper plane, symbolic of Royal Flying Doctor Service which originally began in Cloncurry.

Getting to Cloncurry is no small drive so the efforts the Shire of Cloncurry has gone to, to boost tourism, is commendable as well as appreciated.
