BIG Smurf
I struggled HARD with the idea of whether I should or shouldn't bother visiting this one. Like most items on my list the last thought is generally 'how often will you be out this way' and the answer of 'never' motivates me to make the stop
I'm really glad I did though. This giant smurf is located behind cyclone fencing so you will need to stick your lens or camera through the chain link fence to snap a pic. It's also located at a child care center so visiting on the weekend or after hours is also important for this stop.
The giant Smurf was created 25 years ago, sometime around 1983 by Laurie Fray for a BP service station on the Barkley Highway. He originally held a pail of oil and a spanner but when the BP station closed the Smurf was vandalized and fell into disrepair. Removed in 2008 the Smurf was refurbished and relocated in 2012 to where it resides today; The Family Daycare in Parkside, Mount Isa.
The giant Smurf now appears to hold a card that says Hi instead of his bucket
