Bankstown 'Spirit of Volunteering' Sculpture by Larissa Smagarinsky

Larissa Smagarinsky

I recognized the name instantly but didn't recall from where. The artwork is called the 'Spirit of Volunteering' it was created in 2001 as a tribute  for the 2001 United Nations International Year of Volunteers. 'Spirit of Volunteering' resides quietly near the intersection of The Mall & The Appian Way, so much so that I walked right past it and didn't notice it the first time.

After a check into a local sculpture I learnt this artist also created the 'Light Horse Monument' in Holsworthy. I really loved that sculpture and was absolutely thrilled to have found a second artwork from the artist.
